In parallel with the 67th Berlinale, Glashütte Original introduces the exclusive new limited edition range of five Sixties Square watches. Each of them is limited to 25 pieces worldwide. The collection is named the Glashütte Original Sixties Iconic Square, and each its dials is inspired by colors seen on watch dials first presented in a range of “Spezimatic” models produced by Glashütte Original in the 1960’s. The distinctive dials of five square chronographs are made by the brand’s own dial manufacture in Pforzheim, Germany.

Their square cushion shape, domed dials, curved hands, and characteristic Arabic numerals, distinguish the watches of the Spezimatic series, which still stands as the lasting icon of style. All of these recognizable design elements inspired the Sixties Iconic Square Collection. Five different dials give models their names: Sixties Iconic Forest, Sixties Iconic Ocean, Sixties Iconic Graphite, Sixties Iconic Tangerine and Sixties Iconic Fire.
Their vibrant watch faces are made by applying colored lacquers to achieve the precise hues and shading, lighter in the center and darker towards the perimeter – a finish known as the “dégradé effect.” First, the dials are given a galvanic base coat before layers of colored lacquer are added by hand in a series of subsequent steps. In a final step, black lacquer is carefully applied to the dial using a spray gun to create a unique color gradient. The lacquered dials are then fired in an oven to burn in the colors.
The five models of the Original Sixties Iconic Square collection are presented with a distinctive square cushion shaped stainless steel case, measuring 41.35 x 41.35 mm. The manufactory automatic Calibre 39-34 chronograph, beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph, powers the watches. The movement is mounted on 51 jewel bearings, and it promises around 40 hours of power reserve. All watches are fitted with a matching Louisiana Alligator leather strap: brown for the models featuring forest green or tangerine colored dials, black for the watches with graphite grey, ocean blue or fiery red dials.
The Original Sixties Iconic Square collection is available in Glashütte Original Boutiques and selected retailers. Each of the five models, limited to 25 pieces, retails at $9,700 USD.
